Work placements are a great way for students to build skills, relate school studies to a real-world workplace, and ‘try out’ a job or career before investing in it.

Likewise at Kellas, we are invested in offering work experience as part of our corporate social responsibility, supporting the next generation of talent gain the skills required for our industry in the future.

Jack Evans and Archie Lindsay from Robert Gordon’s College have just completed a week-long placement in our Aberdeen office. Here’s their summary of how they got on…

We took part in workshops and learnt about different parts of the business, including working on projects for marketing and communications, legal and operations. We also enjoyed having detailed 1-to-1 sessions with people from different departments and learning about how their roles impact the company. They helped us gain a great understanding of how Kellas provides a wide range of services and about how it raises money for local charities.

What interested us in work experience at Kellas…

We were really keen to learn about the company and how it impacts the gas industry. We did some research about Kellas and saw all the good things it does and the huge impact it has with such a small team. We thought it would be the best company to give us valuable experience of being in a workplace.

Our main takeaways from the week…

Jack: I really enjoyed the workshops, specifically an interview workshop which will help me in the future when applying for jobs. I learnt so much about the different types of questions you can be asked in an interview as well as how to carry out the interview in a professional manner. I thought it was a great experience.

Archie: My main takeaway was just how many different departments there are and how much effort it takes from everyone to make sure everything runs smoothly and goes to plan. I also really enjoyed taking part in different workshops within various teams and learning about what they all do. I think my favorite workshop was learning about the operations that take place at the CATS terminal and just how complex it is.

Why we recommend Kellas for work experience…

It’s a great opportunity to immerse yourself in an office environment with friendly and helpful people that support each other. They were fantastic in keeping us busy throughout the week with loads of workshops and sessions that will help our careers in the future.

Our graduate engineer, Harry Ford, supervised Jack and Archie’s time at Kellas: “They both had a brilliant attitude throughout the week and embraced every task that we offered them. They got a real insight into the demands and expectations of the working world and showed real professionalism, enthusiasm and maturity.”

Jack’s dad, Chris Evans, is part of the Kellas team and commented, “Thanks to everyone who gave up their time to provide an absolutely first-class work experience week for Jack and Archie. They really enjoyed it and Jack has been buzzing with work facts at home!”
